PAUL EKMAN

The leading expert on communication and emotions

PAUL EKMAN (Ph.D), American psychologist and emeritus professor of Psychology at UCSF (www.ucsf.edu), is the leading expert on communication and emotions.

A pioneer in recognizing emotions through their behavioral manifestation, he has substantially contributed to expanding the understanding of non-verbal behavior, which includes facial expressions and micro expressions, and body language.

ESaC and ETaC methods

Professor Ekman’s research on lying led to the discovery of micro expressions, mimics connected to emotions that appear and vanish within a fraction of a second (up to a twenty-fifth of a second), due to a sudden voluntary interruption (attempt at suppression).

Thanks to his EMOTIONAL SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES (ESaC) method, it is possible to increase awareness of one’s emotions and recognize them in the interlocutor, in order to guide them towards successful relationships.

Paul Ekman has recently developed and made available the EVALUATING TRUTHFULNESS AND CREDIBILITY (ETaC) method, which allows the analysis of every communication channel, in order to assess the credibility of the person or behaviors connected to lying.

“We know so little about emotions, yet they determine the choices and quality of our life”

The expressions can express themselves all over the face or only in part of it (upper or lower part). In the latter case, they are defined as subtle expressions.
